Pickling & Passivating

Stainless steel owes its properties to a thin dense chromium oxide layer on the surface. Mechanical and thermal processing can lead to contamination of the surface with metal particles. As a result of machining, heating and welding also the original austenite structure can be lost. The pickling process eliminates welding discolorations and removes unwanted metals and particles. The passivation process restores the passive layer on the stainless steel.

Pickling and passivation provides a reproducible clean and corrosion resistant stainless steel surface to your metal components. The artificial passivation layer that is created in this process, provides better corrosion resistance than the oxide layer that naturally arises on stainless steel.

In case of very large product we can remove the welding discoloration by spray pickling.
